500 guests joined ZEISS in Jena to celebrate the 200th birthday of Carl Zeiss

On September 15, 2016, 500 guests visited the 15th Day of Microscopy in Jena to meet with our experts, experience our newest innovations with hands-on demos, and learn about new methods in light and electron microscopy in workshops. The invited guests celebrated the 200th birthday of Carl Zeiss together with us and enjoyed a keynote lecture by Nobel Prize laureate Eric Betzig.

After an introduction by CEO Dr. Markus Weber into the history and future of microscopy at ZEISS, Nobel Prize laureate Prof. Dr. Eric Betzig presented the newest microscopy technology from his lab and discussed the future of fluorescence microscopy with the stunned audience.

The 15th Day of Microscopy was dedicated to the 200th birthday of the company founder Carl Zeiss. Impressive insights into light, electron and correlative microscopy demonstrated the latest advances in neurobiology and cell biology. Workshops about multimodal and live cell imaging took our guests on an exciting, multifaceted and inspiring journey.

In the afternoon all invited guests took part in various workshops and hands-on instrument demonstrations. Highlights included light sheet fluorescence microscopy with Lightsheet Z.1, confocal microscopy with the ZEISS LSM 8 family and Airyscan, and the Digital Classroom Experience with stereo and light microscopes for education and routine.
