UV Radiation and Eye Health

August 31, 2018
Ultraviolet radiation can be dangerous. How does it affect our eyes? Watch Friederike Franze a blogger and adventurer on her journey to Tenerife finding out what UV radiation has to do with our eye health and how we can protect ourselves even with clear lenses. At Europe’s largest solar telescope GREGOR at the Teide Observatory (IAC) she meets Hanna Strecker, a physicist from the Kiepenheuer Institute for Solar Physics, and learns what determines the strength of UV radiation. Later she meets Dr. Katharina Rifai, neuroscientist and physicist at the ZEISS Vision Science Lab at the University of Tübingen, who explains how to protect the eyes against UV rays. Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Albert Augustin explains how dangerous the sun’s high-energy radiation can be for us.
